Practical Ways Motherboard Bios Update via CD

Floppy Drive lately become rare hardware. Some PC Branded  is not to bundle its PC package with floppy disks anymore. This makes the process of updating the BIOS to be rather complicated, especially when considering the many parties that do not suggest to update the BIOS through Windows.


Some programs allow the Flash BIOS Update done in Windows but the failure rate is quite high. A failed BIOS update will result in your computer in this motherboard be damaged goods, unless the motherboard that has failitas Dual BIOS or Backup BIOS.


So what's the solution? Create a Bootable CD (read = can be used to boot) with a flash update program in it. You can also create a bootable USB stick with flash update program in it. You can find writing about them in other parts.

Here I will use a CD burning program Ahead Nero Burning ROM version 7. You can use CD burning software that you liked as long as the program has the facility of making a bootable CD.

First, Boot Image Download the file here. This file is different from the version used in the post Make Hiren's Boot CD from flash
You need to file this boot.zip to create a bootable CD system. Use Winzip, WinRAR
extract other files or programs. Remember where you saved the file is extracted. Later you'll need it.
Here is a list of files contained in the image file. These files that will appear in drive A: \ when you boot.
This image file contains only the essential files needed and seumlah DOS CDROM ATAPI and SCSI drivers. If you are looking for EMM386 or himem, you will not find it.
Let's get started. I assume you've managed to download the necessary files and programs had the right BIOS update.

Create a Bootable CD Guide

  1. Open Nero Burning ROM and select "New Compilation".
  2. Select the CD at the top of the drop down list.
  3. On the left side, scroll down until a "CD-ROM (Boot)", Select.
  4. On the Boot tab, select "Image File" as the source and Browse the location where you'd store the file boot.img
  5. Click the "New".In the session of File Browser, navigate to the folder where you saved the downloaded BIOS file.
  6. Drag and Drop file to the left side panel
  7. Select the CD-Writer you will be using from the drop-down list
  8. Click the Burn button to start burning your bootable CD.

    refers to the computer DELL bios update. Adjust the command with an existing on your computer. There will be several different treatments for each motherboard.

    1. Boot the computer and when it appears the BIOS boot screen, press the F12 key. Insert the CD that you created earlier.
    2. Select the Boot from CD, then the next you will see the DOS prompt A: \
    3. Drive A contains files which are in boot.img as I mentioned earlier
    4. Drive Z contains the File Update your BIOS.
    5. Move to the drive Z, type Z: [Enter]
    6. At the DOS prompt, type the file name Update your BIOS, for example I use BGX24005.EXE.
    7. Follow the instructions on screen to complete.
    8. Restart your computer and you'll get your BIOS is updated!
